rage against the machine

RATM's music is a fierce mixture of hard rock and politically-inspired rap.  The band has created a growing storm of controversy and at the same time huge support by their fans.  The influences of this band go (in their own words) from BadBrains to Malcolm X, from Led Zeppelin to Che Guevara, from Minor Threat to Martin Luther King Jr., from Public Enemy to The Clash.

All of RATM's sounds, which include some pretty unusual ones, are made with guitar, bass and drums.  They don't use samples, synthezizers or keyboards.  What they do use is the great musical power of their songs and their highly controversy-charged language.  RATM's lyrics protest against all kinds of different injustices and atrocities made by the government, in this case, of the United States, but they also protest against all discrimination and violence.  They have a really deep philosophy--which distinguishes them from most of today's bands--and this is reflected in their lyrics.  Musically, their song are a powerful blend of metal and rap, and they make some incredible effects with their guitar and bass.

Rage started out in 1991 in Los Angeles, and they took their name from an unreleased record of Zack de la Rocha's previous band.  They played in various clubs and in little time they had agents from several labels fighting to have them in their name.  So they decided to go for Epic, where they have recorded their two albums.
